2D & 3D/4D Baby Ultrasounds

Baby's First Pictures

With 2D ultrasounds and 3D/4D baby ultrasounds from Northline Women's Health Center, you can capture special glimpses of your unborn child as photos and in a video.

This is not a medical diagnostic ultrasound. No measurements of your baby will be taken and no evaluation of the baby's or mother's anatomy will be performed. This ultrasound is not meant to replace any ultrasound that your obstetrical healthcare provider would request during the course of your prenatal care. Our ultrasound technicians are among the best in Michigan, so request an appointment now for a 2D or 3D/4D ultrasound.

If I'm having twins, do I have to pay to scan each baby?

Yes. You will receive separate photos of each baby, with one image CD-ROM and one video. Please let us know when scheduling if you are expecting multiples so we can allow ample time for the ultrasound. Twins should be scanned at 24 to 27 weeks for 3D views.

Will my insurance company cover the cost?

No. Because this 3D ultrasound is an elective procedure and not diagnostic, your insurance company will not be billed. Payment in full is expected at the time the service is performed. We accept cash, checks and major credit cards.

Will I be guaranteed a clear picture of my baby's face?

No. We are usually able to get a beautiful view of the baby's face. However, it may not be possible depending on the baby's position, fluid, placental location and other maternal factors. As you can imagine, there are lots of other great images available of your baby if the face is not accessible.

Can you tell me if my baby is a boy or a girl?

Yes. Our certified technicians are correct over 99% of the time. In rare cases, you may be asked to return at a later date to determine the gender. If you are, there will be no additional charge for the second visit. How good are our technicians? If we're wrong about the sex of your baby, we'll give you a $100 gift certificate to buy new baby clothes!

Can I bring friends to my ultrasound exam?

Space in the room is limited, so please limit your group to no more three people total: you (the expectant mother) and two other people.

When should I have this done?

In order to capture images of the baby’s face, 3D and 4D images should be scheduled between 28 and 32 weeks of pregnancy; between 24 and 27 weeks if you’re carrying twins. If you want a 2D ultrasound to confirm the gender of the baby, have the procedure done between 18 and 22 weeks.

Do I need a note or prescription from my doctor?

No. Since this is NOT a diagnostic ultrasound, it will not play a role in your prenatal care with your obstetrical provider.

Is it safe for my baby and me?

Over the years, hundreds of studies have confirmed the safety of this technology. Since 3D and 4D ultrasounds use the same ultrasound energy and intensity as standard 2D ultrasound, they are just as safe.

What is 3D and 4D ultrasound?

3D ultrasound refers to the computer’s ability to reconfigure standard 2D ultrasound technology to produce a 3D image of your baby. 4D ultrasound allows you to see these 3D images almost instantaneously.
