Minimally Invasive Surgery

Your Minimally Invasive Surgery Center

Laparoscopic, endoscopic, and minimally invasive surgery (MIS) allow physicians to perform many types of procedures through tiny incisions no wider than a fingernail. In most cases, a minimally invasive approach leaves patients with substantially less pain, less blood loss and a much shorter recovery. Other advantages include a reduced need for blood transfusions, minimal scarring, a lower risk of infection, shorter hospital stays and a quicker return to normal activities.

The Robotic Surgery Experts

At Northline Women’s Health Center, our physicians are utilizing the latest techniques in minimally invasive surgery, including some of the most advanced robotic surgery in Michigan. With the da Vinci™ Surgical System our surgeons can perform with unmatched precision and control.

By dramatically enhancing visualization, precision, control and dexterity, the da Vinci™ System overcomes the limitations of traditional laparoscopic technology, helping physicians to perform complex surgery better than ever.

Many providers are now offering robotic surgery for women, but a patient should ask their doctor, "how long have you been doing robotic surgery?" Northline Women's Health Center has some of the most experienced robotic surgeons in the United States, with more than five years of experience in robotic surgery including the da Vinci™ robotic surgical system.

A Minimal Approach To Hysterectomy

While the majority of hysterectomies performed in the United States utilize a “open” approach, requiring a traditional 6-to-12-inch incision in the abdomen, laparoscopic hysterectomy can remove the uterus either vaginally or through small incisions. The surgeon can see inside the abdomen using a miniaturized camera that is inserted in a small incision. A laparoscopic approach offers surgeons better visualization of affected structures than either vaginal or abdominal hysterectomy alone.

Robotic Hysterectomy

If your doctor recommends a hysterectomy, you may be a candidate for da Vinci Hysterectomy, one of the most effective, least invasive treatment options for a range of uterine conditions.

For most patients, da Vinci Hysterectomy can offer numerous potential benefits over traditional approaches to vaginal, laparoscopic or open abdominal hysterectomy, particularly when performing more challenging procedures, such as a radical hysterectomy for gynecologic cancer.

Potential benefits include:

  • Significantly less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Fewer complications
  • Less scarring
  • A shorter hospital stay
  • A faster return to normal daily activities

Because surgical results are specific to both the patient and the procedure, the benefits of the da Vinci™ Surgical System cannot be guaranteed. While radical hysterectomy or abdominal hysterectomy performed using the system are considered safe and effective, these procedures may not be appropriate for every individual. Always ask your doctor about all treatment options, as well as their risks and benefits.

Permanent Sterlization

Northline Women's Health Center offers laparoscopic tubal ligation, a minimally invasive surgical procedure to permanently block the fallopian tubes so your eggs cannot be fertilized or reach the uterus. Essure hysteroscopic tubal occlusion is a non-surgical procedure that creates a natural barrier in the fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy.

Treatment for Heavy Periods

Women with heavy or long-lasting periods who do not wish to have children in the future may be candidates for endometrial ablation. This one-time procedure that can be done in our office or in a hospital setting will gently remove the lining of the uterus – the part that causes the bleeding. Northline Women's Health Center offers the NovaSure and Thermachoice procedures for endometrial ablation as an in-office procedure or in a hospital setting. If you’re sure you don’t want any children in the future, and your doctor rules out more serious causes of heavy bleeding, you may be a good candidate for endometrial ablation.
